Sexy New Lips

Of course, every women out there loves the classic yet sexy red lip. I know I love a deep, vampy red for special occasions. But consider trying something a little different; pale lips.
Obviously, I don't mean go find the Halloween makeup and paint your lips white. There is no way that could look good. I've tried a couple ways at home to make my own luscious pale lips, and I think I've found the best method.
1. Exfoliate your lips. Flaky, dry, pale lips just looks unhealthy.
2. Choose a chapstick or a nude or very light pink lipstick, and put some on your lips.
3. Take a little more of your chapstick or lipstick and put it on your index finger.
4. Mix a little foundation, and maybe a little white or very pale pink powder, in with your chapstick or lipstick, and put on your lips.
5. Mix the chapstick or lipstick and foundation until you have found the right shade!
Or, if you don't like this method, I'm sure you can buy some pale nude lipstick...But really, this is much more fun. The best way to wear this is with darker eyes and some light blush. Don't go too pale, or add too much powder, or else your lips will begin to look chalky.
Anyways, hope you try this out!

Quick "Fashion Rules" Update

I know that when it comes to making your own unique look, there are no rules. But some things are just wrong, no matter how you try to pull it off. Like, for instance, wearing a thong instead of pants. That's just an example, though, so now I'll write a quick list.

1. Do not wear flip-flops when there is snow on the ground. Find some cute flats or boots instead.
2. Underwear is just that. UNDER-wear. You should not be able to see panty lines, panties that have risen above your pants (although we don't want to see any, er... cracks, either), bra straps, or thongs peeking over your pants. I don't know how many times I've read this and yet I still see it happen.
3. Workout clothes are for working out. Do not wear them elsewher, and do NOT wear them to work!
4. Setting your makeup gun to "suffocating plaster" level is not flattering. Go easy on your makeup, and the older you get, the more natural it should look.
5. Wear heels that YOU can walk in. If someone else looks great in them, fine. But before you buy a pair of shoes, make sure you can keep your balance.

I know there are plenty more things that people should definitely not do, but this is a pretty basic overview. I wish people would use a little common sense when getting dressed in the morning, but anyhow, this list should keep you from making some of the worst fashion follies.

More Fashion News

Okay, I guess I haven't posted for a while, but I have some awesome news! I bought THE most fantastic dress EVER. It's black with black lace netting overlay and the lace has darker polka dots on it. It's sleeveless, but the strap part is made of lace. The actual bodice of the dress is, of course, black and ruched and a slim black ribbon goes around just under my waist. It has an A-line, knee-length skirt which is black and also has the black netting with polka dots. Actually, does anyone know a specific term for polka dots that aren't, like, tiny? Because the "dots" on my dress are ovals and are about 1 inch wide...Well, I'm fairly sure they're just called dots.

Anyways, enough about me, I'm sure you're all just dying to know what to wear. I want to take a moment to focus on fringe. Last year, all the designers we know and love were playing with it, and it's here to stay! At least until the next big thing. Anyways, fringe is still going strong, especially on shoes. Fringe is also great and short skirts and on some dresses. Try not to get the thick, hippie-dippie-trippie style fringe unless you are going for boho chic. If you are going for a more elegant look, find fabrics that shimmy together attractively and stay fringe-y looking not clumpy.

As for makeup... Well, spring is always about lighter colors, and having more fun. Bright eyeshadow colors have been going strong in the fashion world for at least a year. Keep your makeup fresh! Don't go wild with the neons, just be a little bold. One more thing to amp up your style this spring: bangles. Lots and looooooots of bangles. Just maybe make sure to keep a little arm skin, but otherwise pile 'em on! There were some glass bangles by 3.1 Phillip Lim, and others in wild prints and fabrics.

I'll be posting more on Spring/Summer trends of '09 soon, but ta-ta for now!

Suddenly Sentimental

Okay, I know if you check the date on this post, it's my second post today. And that I already wrote an article welcoming the New Year. But...suddenly it just hit me. A whole year of good times and bad have just passed, a year when I basically found my own style instead of copying someone else, a year where I've broken two bones...just wow. All of a sudden, I feel so sentimental. And just to prove it to you, I'm gonna write a list all about my life in a little town in nowhere for this year.

Bad: 1. I broke my collarbone.
2. I found out it's not that hard to break earring posts off of earrings.
3. I broke my ulna. It's the little bone in your arm, only I broke it in my wrist area.
4. I figured out I really like cheese and maybe gained about 5 pounds.
5. I did not ride on any of the rides at the state fair this year. Yes, I go to a state fair. You might have noticed in my title it said Hicks.
6. I never ate a fried Snickers bar at the state fair. No really, if you've never tried one, you should! :P
7. I never did buy a vest.
8. I couldn't go skiing OR snowboarding over Christmas, because, like I said, I broke my wrist. Actually, It's still broken as I'm typing.

Good: 1. I bought some adorable brown heels for something like $20. No, they were not designer, but they were fabulous.
2. I went skiing with my family over Thanksgiving break.
3. I found my general personal style, although I do wear something random every once in a while. It's sort of preppy-glam chic, with maybe a touch of goth.
4. I got a facebook account profile thingy!
5. It turns out I may be visiting Europe, the East Coast (of the United States of America), or both in 2009! Again, although I have traveled before, I'm stuck in the boondocks right now. But they're not really that bad, honestly.
6. I got a foundation powder that actually matches my skin tone! I'm about as pale as death, figuratively speaking.
7. I accidentally mouthed off to someone who was in charge, and didn't get in trouble for it!!!
8. I found my favorite ring again.

I could think of many more, and probably some more relevant stuff, but really, I'm going to miss this last year.

Have a happy New Year folks!

Upcoming 2009 Trends

Wow, 2008 is almost over and 2009 is coming like a ton of bricks. The big question?

What do I wear?!?

Well, for starters, we have two-toned shoes; asymmetrical dresses, tops, and bikinis; lace up booties; sheer fabrics; and some romantic-fairy-tale pieces. Obviously, you aren't gonna walk down the street wearing a ball gown, so the fairy stuff will probably stay mostly on the runway. But, if you're feeling brave, try it out with a full, ruffly skirt and a more subdued top, or a puffy-sleeved shirt with some skinny jeans and boots.
Also, neons and other bright colors. Go bold!! Make it a New Year's Resolution that you will not be wimpy when you get dressed. Take all your blues and greens and layer them together. Wear a hot pink top with some killer two-toned shoes and a neutral skirt. Use lots of color and have fun. After all, if you mess up, one of two things will happen: 1. Everybody forgets within a few days (or a month if it's really bad), or 2. Somebody will think it looks fabulous and you just started the hottest new trend!!!

Happy New Year's, everyone! Hope you had a great year! : )

Hey Y'all!

I am so glad that we can finally wear boots! Especially those ankle booties with the really high heels, they're just fantastic.
Also, there's a lot of purple going around. There are some fabulous purple accessories, and some of Louis Vuitton's purses and such are really adorable. Plus, I found some amazing purple booties!! You get winters hottest color and trend, all in one. And even though I think fringe is for cowboys, rodeos, and costume parties, I saw at least one pair of purple fringe boots that I totally would have worn. In public. If you're thinking about dressing up, try wearing purple pumps with your little black dress. Then pair it with a cute purple ring, maybe an adorable purple clutch, and away you go! Perfect purple party apparel.
I'm gonna have to finish it up real quick here, but I wanted to take a moment and wax poetic about Manalo Blahnik and his shoes. Have you seen his Autumn/Winter 2008-09 collection? They are all fantastic and gorgoes and exactly what I would wear if I could afford them all. If you have not seen them, I highly suggest you google him and have a look-see. You will NOT be disappointed.
